As for not being able to unlock you door.
The temperatures was only zero degrees celsius at most last night and the windscreen of the car was not frozen.
Basicly after a cold night under 5 the door catch on the drivers side is refusing to catch.
So i opened the passenger door to compare the little latch that holds it open and it looked the same.
This morning was the first time the car was in freezing temperatures since i have owned it and after unlocking the door and opening it the door latch would not engage and hold the door closed.
Son just called me from college his 98 ford taurus drivers side door won t latch in really cold weather remember i m in michigan i told him to monkey with the mechanism as his sister s cavalier used to need the latch manually moved to shut sometimes.
He described it to me it went over my head anyways it is different than a cavalier.

If you door wont close or open you need to check the latch out and make sure its not just bent.

Maybe just being able to get at it and properly lubricate it may help.
When i tried to shut the passenger door it wouldn t shut either.
You probably don t need to replace the latch.

Part of the problem with being in such a cold place is even tho its so cold there is still moisture in the air.
You need to pull open.
I can unlock and open the car fine but until the engine has warmed up the door won t catch when shut.

Only after letting the car warm up for 15 minutes then both doors shut properly.
